Winter Weddings – Give It A Try

July 26, 2009

Most brides choose to get married in the spring or the summer. However, a winter wedding can be quite beautiful, so consider having your wedding during this magical season. There are a whole array of options for making your wedding unique and memorable during this time of year.

If you decide to have a wedding during the winter, choose the date well in advance. Christmas and New Year’s Eve are two popular dates for winter weddings, so you will want to give yourself plenty of time to reserve your wedding and reception locations.

Be sure and send out “Save the Date” cards so your guests can make their plans, since these two holidays tend to be busy ones. Some brides choose a Christmas wedding as a convenience if their families live far apart and usually gather together only at this time of year.

Getting married in a church during this special time means that the church is most likely already decorated with wreaths, garlands, pine, poinsettias, holly and candles. You might want to continue this theme at your reception, where you can create a holiday mood with tartan ribbons, velvet ribbons and tablecloths, and deep red roses.

A New Year’s wedding might have a different feel to it. Consider having your wedding be the main aspect of a big, exciting party. Instead of the warm, cozy feeling of Christmas, a New Year’s gala would be full of sparkle, dazzle and light. Your colors would include a lot of glittering white and silver for a bright, celebratory feel. One novel idea is to ask your florist to include some Swarovski crystals in your bouquet or in the centerpieces for the tables.

Your guests would definitely notice these unique additions to the floral arrangements for your wedding! You can add to the glittering, festive effect by using metallic ribbons, beaded votive holders, and fabrics that sparkle and shine. You will need to plan ahead for your wedding party’s attire. Gowns that are appropriate for Christmas weddings will look out of place at one for a New Year’s Eve ceremony. Fabrics that are rich and velvety will fit right in for your Christmas wedding.

You can add a cape of velvet or drape a fur-trimmed wrap across your shoulders for additional warmth and glamour. A New Year’s Eve bride should strive for a sexier, sleeker look. For example, a crystal covered sheath dress would make you the centerpiece of your wedding and fit perfectly with your theme.

Make sure you think about the accessories for your wedding too, since winter weddings tend to be formal, with an air of elegance and class about them. Bridal jewelry sets will not go unnoticed as you walk down the aisle or dance at your reception. Consider a necklace, bracelet and earrings that really send a message: chandelier earrings, double strand necklaces and Swarovski crystals will keep heads turning toward you all evening long!

With a little planning, you can have a lovely, unique and memorable wintertime wedding. This season of the year is already one of celebration, so take advantage of that and create your own reason to gather, celebrate, and enjoy being with friends and family.
