Wedding Reception Flowers – Set The Perfect Mood

January 21, 2010

The particulars of your wedding, as personal as they are, will be expressed within the paramaters of the whole setting. You will have established an atmosphere, an environment in which beautiful things will happen and loving expressions will be exchanged.

The specifics will show up more clearly within this larger setting. Flowers are a very important way in which you will set the context of your wedding day. They will certainly frame you and the dress you have so carefully chosen. It’s probably best that first of all you set a theme for the wedding.

This is usually one theme that runs through the entire day, but there can even be two themes–one for the ceremony and one for the reception. Perhaps these themes will complement each other, such as an island feel to the flowers at the ceremony and the feel of a particular destination, such as Hawaii, at the reception.

It is possible to fall in love with specific flowers and, having found them, decide on the theme of the wedding based on their colors and places of origin. Often, however, this will just be confusing and lead to a hodge podge of ideas with which you ultimately will not be satisfied. You don’t want to have to compromise your vision for the dream wedding day, so, if possible, decide on the main theme first.

Once the theme is established, you can decide on the kind of flowers that will best serve. A bit of structural thinking can help because it will help you to see what you will need to make it happen. Besides your bouquet and those of the attendants, you may envision floral centerpieces, pew ends, napkin rings, or even an arbor under which you’ll say your vows or cut your cake. S

ome flowers are too delicate to compose these structures, while others will look too heavy if you try to use them. If money is not a consideration, you can pretty much go to a good florist and start spinning your dreams. He or she will certainly enjoy working with you because you’ll be able to order any amount of flowers from anywhere. If money is a consideration, as it often is, there are many ways in which to trim the floral budget, and your florist will enjoy helping you be creative.

You can choose flowers that are locally grown and in season, perhaps even arranging some of them yourself. Or you can be completely innovative. Potted plants are beautiful and somewhat unusual and can be replanted or even rented just for the occasion. Think about unusual types of plants, like flowering cacti or unusually arranged twigs in interesting vases. Silk flowers are often just as convincing as the real thing. In fact, they don’t droop, and for added appeal they can be mixed with cut flowers.

Flowers can be used along with candles, creating a lovely halo effect while trimming the budget. Whether you want to celebrate amid a riot of color or with a pastel aura, your flowers will help you to set the tone you desire. There are ways in which you can have what you want, no matter what your vision or budget. Be creative with your decorations and your event will have that extra special something that you and your guests will remember for years to come.
