Wedding Cake Ideas – Be Creative
October 23, 2009
While it may seem overwhelming and impossible at first, it is absolutely possible and feasible to create your own beautiful wedding cake. Some planning and creativity will go a long way and can definitely save you a bundle of cash.
There are dozens of books, websites, online forums, and other resources available to help you come up with ideas for your cake. You first want to pick out the size and style of the cake you will create for your special day. Consider the colors and theme of your wedding for inspiration. Also consider your guests’ tastes.
Remember that an elaborate cake can be made from simple, appealing flavors. Your guests do not (and should not!) need to be cake chefs to appreciate a beautiful and tasty homemade piece of art. Large craft stores are great places to begin thinking about your cake design.
These stores usually stock a plethora of wedding supplies. You can find cake toppers, ribbons, lace, and other ornaments. Some stores have pillars and circular cutouts you can use to support a cake or layers of cake. You can purchase various decorations that will perfectly match your cake decor.
Once you get down to business, you can get excellent baking tools from restaurant supply shops. If you are on a tight budget, you can try purchasing from restaurants that are shutting their doors and are desperate to liquidate. Flowers and pastels often inspire the cakes for spring weddings.
You can tier and layer angel fruit cakes with berries and fresh jams. Edible flowers, like lilac, jasmine, violent, and nasturtium, make wonderful decorations. Feel free to bake a square wedding cake; there is no need to choose a traditional round cake. You can create tiered cakes from any shaped cake. You can use icing and fondant to jazz up cakes of any size and shape.
Finally, dress up your cake with some ribbon. Dozens of colors and styles are available to match the theme you choose. Use a toothpick to secure the ribbon. There is no reason to pay a caterer a huge sum for a cake. Give yourself some time to experiment and you will be able to create a delicious cake you and your guests are sure to enjoy. Good luck!
