The Advantages of an Ivory Wedding Dress
September 26, 2009
The traditional western wedding features a bride in a white wedding gown. While it is irrefutable that many brides look gorgeous in the traditional western design bleach white wedding gowns, such a stark contrast can not be achieved on women with a very fair skin complexion.
As a result, the traditional western white wedding gown makes very fair skinned women look pale and insignificant, hardly a desirable effect on one of the most important days in a woman’s life. The stark white wedding gowns do not work well for women with red hair either, as the contrast creates a visually off-putting effect.
One method of coping with this problem, for either very fair skinned women or women with red hair, is to use an ivory wedding dress. Every style of traditional western white wedding gown is also available in ivory colored fabric. Even if the exact design isn’t available in ivory colored fabric, there should be an equivalent design available.
The idea of adding a little color to the gown but still wearing a functionally white wedding gown is very appealing to many women. The color of the gown is important, as it is held to represent the purity of the bride. An impure bride, that is, a woman who is remarrying or who has had relations prior to marriage, traditionally should choose a non-white wedding gown.
Choosing an ivory gown allows a bride to remain traditionally pure while preventing the bride from looking washed out or extremely pale. The effect can be further enhanced by having the bridesmaids wear dark colors. Many women have melanin enhancing procedures such as sun bathing or tanning booth session performed on them before their wedding. In the case of women with rich, dark hair and olive or tanned skin, remaining with the traditional bleached white bridal gown is a good idea.
Women with duskier complexions also benefit greatly from choosing a stark white gown, as their skin tones are rich and beautiful. The contrast only serves to make women of the aforementioned types more stunning. Unfortunately, there are many fair skinned women who do not tan well. Instead of increased melanin, they simply sun burn under the summer sun (or the tanning booth’s relentless glare).
These ladies are especially good candidates for an ivory wedding dress, since a white wedding gown would only serve to make them look pale and less significant than they deserve. Red-haired women come in two common shades: the classic red, and the auburn redhead. I have found that an ivory wedding gown suits auburn redheads very well, since it suits their auburn highlights. Even a woman who does tan should consider an ivory wedding gown instead of a stark white wedding gown.
