Strapless Wedding Dresses – Can You Pull It Off?
October 30, 2009
The look can be very casual, as for a beach wedding, or more traditional and sculpted. On the other hand, this is not a look that everyone can wear. Lots of us are budget conscious these days, and unless you can afford to buy a very nice gown and have it fitted by someone with expertise, don’t do strapless.
You don’t want to be tugging at your bodice all day and evening, and really there’s nothing but you to keep this dress up and in place. Ditto if you’re an active bride who will want to fast dance in this same dress during the reception. Comfort isn’t everything, but it is important and you will look more radiant if you are more comfortable. If you’re too small on top or very big, this may not be the look for you.
It may not be for you if you’re heavy as it would call attention to shoulders and arms that you would not want to highlight. (Strapless with a slight off shoulder sleeve is possible if the arm is just a bit of a problem or if you want to wear gloves for a more formal look.) If you’re just on the cusp of overweight, a wedding basque or corset might help. The boning will tuck you in all the right places and give shape and support.

The Beauty of Fall Wedding Favors
October 16, 2009
Fall weddings are the essence of romance and beauty in the changing of the seasons. When you think of the fall, it invokes old world images of leaves changing into rich hues of crimson, amber, rust, plum, and copper.
Autumn is the season of ripe orange pumpkins and red apples, colorful leaves crunching beneath your feet, and the smell of spice lurking in the air. With the age-old appeal of theming your wedding to the season that it takes place, why not decorate your autumn wedding with the lavish tones of the fall?
There is an abundance of simple ways to make your wedding glow with the spirit of the autumn. Mainly, however, you want to focus on its colors. Autumn days are bright while simultaneously being crisp and cool, and this is the aura that you want your wedding guests to feel from the colors used at your fall wedding.
You will want to use bright hues of red, yellow, orange, purple, and brown. Luckily, it is easy to incorporate these colors into your wedding with your wedding favors. It comes down to being as simple as wrapping paper and a little bit of craftiness. You can begin by initially wrapping the gifts in brown paper.
Unique Wedding Cakes – Use Your Imagination
October 13, 2009
After the ceremony and the food and the dancing, there comes–the cake! But how many people really get excited over the traditional tiered bridal cake with yellow cake and white or ivory icing? There are ways to stir interest and create memories if you let your imagination have free range and are not stuck to one idea of what a wedding cake must be.
If you’re putting your personal stamp on the rest of the wedding items, why not continue as you dream the perfect sweet creation to cap the event? It’s a relatively simple way to add a fairy tale stamp to your perfect day. We think of the traditional cake as one with tiers layered one on top of the other, either directly or supported by columns. But you don’t have to have a tiered cake.
You can have a cake in the shape of something meaningful to you–the place where you met or a symbol of the honeymoon destination, for instance. You can have tiers that aren’t traditionally assembled but that seem to float or balance in mid-air. Icing can be dark or light, and you can use fresh flowers or trinkets or whatever decorations create interest and maybe even contrast.
Wedding Cake Prices – What Are The Costs?
October 9, 2009
The wedding cake is an essential element of any “successful” wedding. It can also be one of the most expensive. However, wedding cake prices can be managed based on a number of factors. First, the wedding planner should understand that wedding cakes are not priced at a single “cake” price, but rather by the number of slices needed.
The more slices needed, the more expensive the cake. Second, the quality of the cake itself adds to the per slice cost. The more tiers on the cake, the better quality the icing, the more artistic and elaborate the decorations, the more expensive the cake will be. A simple, no-frills wedding cake should run $1 to $2 per slice. It will have few decorations, cheap icing, and a basic design.
For 100 guests, that’s a $100 to $200 cake. The next step up, including multiple tiers (2 to 3), better icing, and a more complex design, runs $4 to $7 a slice. For larger wedding parties, of 500 or more, at $5 per slice, the total cost is a minimum of $2500! A complicated, multi-tiered cake, using a high-quality icing that doesn’t bleed and a high-end custom design, can run $8 to $12 PER SLICE!
