The Long History Of Wedding Shower Favors
August 6, 2009
Bridal showers are fun events that have a long history. In Roman times they were given so as to help the new couple begin their lives with the things that might be necessary to set up the new home. In some cultures they were used to provide a sort of dowry to include utilitarian items.
Today bridal showers are events where the female (usually) friends and family of the couple to marry, come together to celebrate the upcoming nuptials. It is quite common for the male friends of the groom, however, to attempt to crash the party but it is all in fun and generally it is an all female party.
Wherever the bridal party takes place today, it is an event that is full of fun and games. Singing and dancing may even play a part. The bridal shower is often likened to the male bachelor party given by the groom’s friends before the wedding. They both serve the purpose of allowing the soon to be married couple to say farewell to their old single lives.
And, as with any party, it is so nice to take away all of the wonderful memories. In order to help make these memories last, it is nice to provide some sort of memento to signify the event. Therefore at the bridal party each guest will receive a special token to remember the day. Usually the maid of honor is the person who plans the bridal shower. If not, a close friend or family member might throw the party.
